History

In 1997 the Escape Workshop was founded by Robin Wade and and in the same year Community Art In Action is founded by Karen Williams. In 2003 they merged.

There was no permanent home and this led them to a search for permanent premises in Stratford. Anyone knowing the town will know that any building that can be turned into a hotel or gift shop will have been snapped up.

In 2014 ideas buzzed and large grants were applied for in order to convert a Grade II derelict former butcher’s shop into a useable space. Only by a vast amount of hard work was the dilemma solved resulting in a QAVS.

Policy

Escape Arts operates a programme of community and commissioned outreach projects in schools, health settings and at community events/festivals. Thanks to funding from Warwickshire County Council we have a new multi-media arts van which will support our growing outreach delivery. We know and understand the impact arts can have on health and wellbeing. We develop targeted creative interventions and lead on transformative public art engagement and development in both community and healthcare settings. Our model is built on inclusivity, integration and independence, underpinned by enhancing wellbeing evidenced through evaluation and ‘Quality for Health’ policy.  Our work is locally led and embedded in the heart of communities.

What they Do

Experienced volunteers give opportunities to anyone who needs help in their life concentrating on arts and culture to improve mental health and wellbeing. A natural division separates under 16’s and over 16’s. They work closely with 35 trusted partners in the medical, mental health and business sectors to advocate the impact of collaborative creative projects offering help to signpost further effective opportunities outside of their remit. Volunteers are always needed.
