Gardens Of Peace
At the eastern end of the gardens once stood a house called The Firs. It was on land where the Police Station is now. In 1910, the gardens of the house, then derelict, were bought by Marie Corelli who as a nearby plaque explains..
“bought the gardens to preserve them as open space for the benefit of the town.”
They remain simple and respected by local residents.
