History

1500‘s

Shottery Manor was originally built as a tithe barn by Evesham Abbey.

From 1402 it was owned by the Herewell family. A chapel was added (which is the current Geography Room). Later descendants were friends of William Shakespeare and it is reckoned by some that he and Anne had their betrothal ceremony here. Over the centuries, under ever more ambitious descendants, it grew and grew.

The manor was taken over by Col Fordham and Lady Hersey Flower. After they died, from 1951, it lay abandoned awaiting a purchaser and rennovation.

1953

The Manor was purchased by Warwickshire County Council who it was converted for use as a girls’ school -opening in 1958.

2011
