From a plaque hanging in the current retirement housing we learn that..
As it grew premises in Bull Lane (now Bull Street) had to be used as well. Later girls were admitted.
In the 1840’s it was decided to enlarge it and so the pupils were moved to a building in Greenhill Street, not far away. [most likely Grove House]
Money was raised by local subscription, the old buildings knocked down and a new one opened in 1846 to a design by Henry Caulfield Sanders. Thomas Mason gave the land and William Woods Weston gave a large donation. It consisted of two large school rooms, one each for boys and for girls of all ages up to 14. The two were joined by a committee room with one small class room either side it. As time went by many extensions were added including a separate infant department*.
In 1939 it was decided to move the over 11’s out to what became the High School on the other side of the railway bridge.
In 1982 a new school, called The Willows, was completed, the pupils transferred there and the school here closed down.
The school uniform was dark green.

First: “National School”
History
A small “National School” was founded here in 1824. It was initially for boys of junior age and probably just a single large room with a separate dining room and toilets.
It was then extended (no further information is currently known).
