History
My father was founder Treasurer of the Stratford Canal Society and it had long been his desire to see Stratford again become navigable by canal and river. Eventually that happened see Canal & River Restorations.
Part of that hope included the permanent birthing of boats in Stratford in a marina and the obvious location was in the Seven Meadows area. Indeed Planning Permission for construction was granted in 1974. However the ground was very soft, being near to river level, and suffered from significant flooding or at least serious runoff from farm land in winter. Therefore huge earth removal and stabilisation works would be required.

In February 2021, after considerable planning, Geomac started ground construction.
Sixteen months later, despite large winter rainfalls, the marina was opened on 27th May 2022.
A great number of photos throughout construction can be seen in the Picture Vault below.
