History
The AZ Of Stratford-upon-Avon explains:
“The first officially recorded horse race in Stratford took place in 1755 on Shottery Meadow, which in 1769 also hosted the Garrick Jubilee Cup race during the [Shakespeare] Jubilee Celebrations. However, it was not until 1836 that a National Hunt race was once again officially run. Racing became increasingly popular, and the Stratford course hosted the Shakespeare Cup, the Warwickshire Hunt, the Diamond Jubilee Cup and the Warwickshire Hunt Coronation Cup.
In 1933 the Great Western Railway opened a halt here. The station closed in 1968.”
