History

The original bridge was built in 1812. The guess is that the Lucy family built it to cross the river just downstream of their mill.

Modern Campaign

In order that that the disabled can use the bridge there has been a campaign by FOLMB to have ramps built either side. However the suggestion has been declined by the District Council due to the cost (£1M). Article: Stratford Herald

Widening

William James canal could take barges up to 6feet wide. When he bought the River Avon, as well as rebuilding the river locks, he knew that space would be needed for craft to pass by without collision and so in 1867 he paid for it to be widened and a footbridge to be built.
