The Doom or Last Judgement is a warning. I depicts Christ in the middle setting the virtuous in Heaven to his right (our left) and dooming those who have sinned and not repented to a life in Hell. It is a contemplation of Chapter 25 in St Matthew’s Gospel. In mediaeval times there were pictures of The Doom across Europe. There were seven in England -just two survive. One here in Stratford and one in Coventry that was painted in 1430 (see link below).

In Wilfrid Puddephat (1915-74) was Art Master at KES. He made a meticulous study of what was left of the fresco and made the following drawing in 1958.

Currently when one enters the Guild Chapel one sees the pale remains of this spectacular piece of workmanship. A significant restoration took place in 2016  (See 0 - Restoration).
