Discovery
As part of the preparations of building an extension onto a house here densely packed remains were found. They comprised a group of Iron Age pits and a Saxon cemetery. It is hoped that DNA may be extractable. According to Senior Archaeological Officer for WCC Dr Susan Porter:
“There is clear evidence of feasting, trade, communication and ‘ritual’ life and death.”
“The combination of burial intensity, material culture (esp. evidence for literacy), location and documentary sources all suggest the location of a previously unknown minster site.”
Minster in this context means where there were rituals of a religious nature.
