Commemorating Stratford’s World War 1 Dead

After some debate a cross was erected at the top of Bridge Street on 17th February 1922. Another was erected in Stratford Cemetery in 1950 (far below right).

All known heroic stories of those who gave their lives for our freedom are recounted in a superb collection in the document below. Our grateful thanks go to Michael Caldwell who has spent a huge amount of time researching this large body of work. Recommended.

Following a serious accident the cross was moved first to the Bancroft Gardens then to the Garden Of Remembrance -facilitated by WT Bird.   Stratford Herald  3 September 1954
